Argentina, Malbec, and Mendoza celebrate new 100-point wines. In his first report for the prestigious publication Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Matthew Luczy, the new critic for Argentina, made his debut by awarding perfect scores to El Enemigo As Bravas Malbec 2018 and Zuccardi Piedra Infinita Gravascal 2021, both from Valle de Uco (Mendoza).
This marks the 16th perfect score for Alejandro Vigil, winemaker and creator of Enemigo Wines, who highlighted the first 100-point rating for a wine from El Cepillo: “The surprise for me has been that El Cepillo, located in San Carlos, an extreme zone, has been recognized with this score. I’ve known this area for 30 years—first through INTA, then with Catena, and later with El Enemigo, which has its vineyard there. It’s a great joy that these new old zones continue refining themselves and achieving these results.
As for Zuccardi Piedra Infinita Gravascal 2021, this is the fourth time that a wine from Finca Piedra Infinita has earned 100 Parker points (and the seventh, counting other critics), the winery commented. “When making these wines, I like to think they come from a ‘spoken place,'” said Sebastián Zuccardi, winemaker behind Zuccardi Valle de Uco.
“Those of us who work in this vineyard daily know it has special places with unique characteristics. This is the case with the plot where Gravascal originates, located in front of the mountains within the alluvial cone of the Tunuyán River. It stands out for its highly rocky soils, with a unique combination of granite and limestone.”
