Through Resolution No. 2025-27, the National Institute of Viticulture (INV) officially recognized Alto Agrelo, in Luján de Cuyo (Mendoza), as a new Geographical Indication (GI) of Argentina. With this designation, Luján de Cuyo now boasts five GIs—Agrelo, Las Compuertas, Luján de Cuyo, Vistalba, and now Alto Agrelo—solidifying its status as one of the country’s most dynamic and promising wine regions.
“This recognition allows us to strengthen Alto Agrelo’s positioning as a distinctive origin, with its own identity and great potential to compete in the most demanding markets,” said José Verdaguer, Agricultural Manager at Avinea, the group that submitted the GI request to the INV last May. Avinea Group owns its flagship estate in Alto Agrelo: a 232-hectare vineyard certified organic.
